By the time our train reached Albany / Rensselaer where they break the train into the Boston part and the New York City part, it was over an hour late. We were supposed to be in Rensselaer about 40 minutes. They cut that short. Our train attendant asked us if we wanted to sit in an empty room so we could watch the scenery along the Hudson River....much more interesting than trees and more trees on our side. Our train car attendant, Thomas, has worked for Amtrak for 35 years. We saw lighthouses, a commercial tanker ship...a small one....a tugboat towing barges, some very expensive and large houses, and West Point.
We arrived in New York City only 9 minute late. We waited for the luggage and decided a cab was in order. After a verbal battle with a New York cabbie, whose cab we did not take, we took the next two cabs. Our cab left after Jan and Bonnie's, but we got to the hotel and paid less than they did. We are staying at a Fairfield Inn on West 28th in the Chelsea neighborhood. It is a nice place in the floral district.....lots of shops filled with gorgeous plants. The shop with the rows and rows of orchids is especially nice.
Dinner at Gigi's, it sounds impressive, but it is really a pasta and salad fast food spot. They do have a really tasty oatmeal chocolate bar.
Steps today. 3410
