First Day in Glasgow
Joey, like any 8 month old, sets the beginning of the day schedule anytime between 5:30 an 6:00 AM. It is wonderful to see Jory, Jess and Pete. They have planned a big breakfast for all of us. Jan and Bonnie will be coming up the hill to join us for breakfast this morning. We had American bacon, sausage patties, scrambled eggs, toast and juice and coffee.
After breakfast Joey has entertain the adults time. Between 8:30 and 9:00 AM, she and one of the parents, usually mom, go off for morning nap and dad goes off to the office. The visitors talk about what to do with the day. It is, of course, raining in Glasgow. Neil and Nancy decide today would be a good day for a trip to the inside buildings at the Glasgow Botanic Gardens. I like taking pictures of flowers, so we have lots of pictures of unidentified flowers.
Kibble Palace is a huge domed greenhouse with a number of plants from around the world. Palm trees and giant ferns live in the middle under the dome along with some strange and exotic plants. Their are two side rooms with cacti / succulents in one room. The other room is labeled killer plants....a great name for those plants that eat insects.
The other set of green houses contains the world's largest collection of begonias with over 100 different types. They also have the biggest impatients I have ever seen. They also have a room full of orchids...wonderful...and rooms of desert plants and tropical rain forest plants.
After walking through those two rooms, we stopped at the little cafe hut on the gardens and got tea, coffee, and water and went back to Kibble Palace to decide what to do next. After some discussion, we decided to go to Amber, a Chinese restaurant where we really like the food. Neil and I shared a orange chicken and a Hong Kong style sweet and sour chicken.
Jan and Bonnie returned to The Heritage House B bad B foran afternoon rest. Neil and I returned to the flat where Neil took a nap and Nancy played Hidden Chronicles ...a stupid game on the Internet.
Pete and Jess again cooks for us. We had chicken sandwiches which Pete grilled and awesome potato wedges. Dinner was great.
At 7:30 it was bath time and bed for Joey. Jan and Bonnie returned to their hotel where they watched tv. Although it is still very light at 10:30, the adults at the flat go to bed as well. It is light again by 4:30 in the AM.
