Day 1. We are off.

Prior to day 1:

We have spent the final week getting ready for our next big adventure. The house is cleaned. The credit card companies have been called. The notebook for Ian and Sara is done. The tickets, hotel reservations, and all those other necessary have been completed. The garden is finished ...even though it is small. We were basically packed two days early.

DAY 1: May 26

Ian picked us and our 8 suitcases up in his new SUV (which is super comfortable) for the trip to Galesburg to the Amtrak station. he helped us with our luggage, waited with us, and saw us off to Chicago. We paid the extra 16 dollars for the business class coach...nice seats, more room, beverages included and a quiet atmosphere. The trip into Chicago was quite pleasant and on-time. We checked the two big bags...about 43 pounds each. Those formal clothes are heavy. We found the first class lounge and checked most of the carry on bags. I think we kept two of the heaviest to carry around the city with us. Wackier Drive is under extensive reconstruction, so it is difficult to get anywhere form the station, but we went for a walk and finished with a lunch at Pot Belly's...a Chicago sandwich shop. Back to our quiet and comfortable lounge to read away the afternoon. We completed a second walk later in the afternoon. Jan (Neil's sister and a friend of hers from chorus..Bonnie) joined us about 6:00PM. We had Chinese in the station food court and returned to the lounge to wait for our train.

The sleeping car passengers..that included us...we're boarded about 8:15 PM. We needed to have time for our wine and cheese and grapes. A nice touch..... It was rather amazing to watch people with. Reserved rooms rushing to be first in line...guess they thought their rooms were going to disappear.

We went back to our rooms just before our 9:30 pm departure time. Our rooms were made up for sleeping by the time we returned from the party. Chicago is rather magical at night. We watched the lights as we left the city. Bedtime.
