Day 14 of our second adventure

The day began with the usual routine at Pete’s flat, Joey was up early and so was everyone else. We had breakfast, Pete had been to Tesco for breakfast goodies muffins and pecan rolls. After Breakfast Joey takes a nap and the adults begin the process of showers and getting dressed. All that accomplished Nancy and I gathered laundry and headed down the hill with a suitcase full of clothes. The lady at the Aqua Laundrette helped us, telling which washers to use. She added the soap and began the cycle. She also showed us the proper settings on the dryer to get clothes dried most quickly while preserving permanent press characteristics of the clothes. She would have made a great drill sergeant in the army…who knows, maybe she was. The task was completed with a grueling walk up hill with a large suitcase full of clean clothes. A quick lunch with Jess and Joey--we finished the pizza from two nights previously= ugh!
After lunch we picked up Jan and Bonnie at the hotel and headed to city center. We walked down Suchiehaul Street and Buchanan Street, we did not go in many places. We did stop in at Crockett’s, and had a set of keys made for Pete and Jess’s flat. We took a walk through the Argyll Arcade which is full of jewelry shops…about two blocks worth. Window after window of diamonds and Rolex watches all with the prices carefully displayed. I found Nancy a beautiful diamond ring, but she turned it down saying that 262,000 Pounds was just outside our price range. After the diamonds we to
ok a break at St. Enoch’s, a shopping mall across the street where we sat and had a soft drink at McDonald’s. It was almost American, they did have a worker handing out straws, napkins, and ketchup. It seems the Scots can’t quite get into the concept of self- service. After our break we took a peek at Hadley’s, a gigantic toy store==Neil found some things, but did not buy. Nancy could have spent the entire vacation budget on toys for the three grandchildren, but then there would be no money to return home. Then up the hill to Thomas Cook where some money could be exchanged… dollars to pounds. On the way we stopped in a TEA/coffee shop and Jan found some mugs—Winnie the Pooh for herself—and some tea for her sister. While they were being wrapped, we went to exchange even more money and returned to pay the bill.
From the Tea shop we walked back downhill to the St. Enoch tube station and came back to the West End where Peter’s Apartment is located. Jan and Bonnie returned to their B and B until dinner time, and we went grocery shopping at Waitrose Grocery. Nancy especially liked the 4 wheel drive grocery carts and the seated checkers. We bought the fixins for spaghetti. We all met for dinner at Pete’s, spaghetti, garlic bread, and a chocolate cake for dessert. Joey had more boring carrots and cucumber and seemed to enjoy it. After dinner we saw Jan and Bonnie off down the hill, released Chase from isolation and put the new girl to bed. Then we watched some British TV Comedy until we could no longer stay awake. And so to bed.
