Day 51 July 14. Saturday
Butterfly and Pig
What to do? We need to do some shopping for some of our favorite people, and Pete, Jess and Joey need to do some shopping for the one who keeps outgrowing her clothes. It is not Jess. Joey has grown enough that she is now in the 9th% for height. It doesn't appear that she has inherited tall genes.
We al took the subway into town. The Glasgow Subway runs in an oval. The inner circle runs counterclockwise. The outer loop runs the same route only clockwise. It crosses under the Clyde River. It also crosses under Jess and Pete's flat between Kelvinbridge and Hillhead. Hillhead is the stop that we usually use.
We checked out a few things in the Buchanan Street Mall.
We decided to do lunch next. On our way to the Butterfly and Pig we saw three very young boys, probably about 9 or 10 setting up band. We stayed to watch them perform their first couple of numbers and to drop 50p in their case. They were pretty good, much better than the band in Rouen. There are a lot of street performers in Scotland and England.
Butterfly and Pig is a delightful pub, restaurant, and tea room. The pub / restaurant is located downstairs. The tables are old antique tables and are set with antique crocheted lace edged cotton tablecloths. None of which are the same. The tables are set with an amalgamation of silver....none of which seem to be the same. It makes of a setting that reminds me of an elderly aunt's home. Three of us ordered fish and chips and mushy peas. Pete assured us that they are some of the best mushy peas in Scotland. The lunches arrived with huge pieces of fish. The chips were crisp and seasoned wonderfully well. Okay, the mushy peas....they were really good for peas that have been puréed. They had some bacon and some real whole peas mixed in with the mush. I shared mine with Joey and others at the table....yes, I said eat some of them.
After lunch Pete, Jess and Joey went their way to do more of their errands, and Neil and I went on down Buchanan Street to do our errands. We spent most of the afternoon in and out of shops, including three different branches of Greaves. We also collected our tickets at Central Station for the trip south at the end of July. It was a great afternoon.
We took the subway from St. Enoch's back to Hillhead. It is a very efficient way to move through the central core of the city.
Pete grilled chicken for dinner. He also made his baked chips which are excellent. He has turned into a rather good cook.
Steps: 12,124
