Day 49 July 12, Thursday
Back in Glasgow....
The sun is shining, it is warm, and it is central Scotland. That means we need to do something special even if we just got back.
We rented a car, and Pete and Neil went to the kennel to get Chase. She has been at her favorite kennel while we were gone. She generally comes home exhausted from herding all of the other dogs in the kennel. The people at the kennel also think she is a pretty special dog as well.
We took the car...a little Ford Focus and went to Edinburgh to the zoo. Unfortunately, we were unable to get tickets to see the pandas. They go extremely fast. The Edinburgh Zoo has something in common with the San Diego Zoo....hills. The Edinburgh Zoo wins however. The zoo has huge hills. We went up the first hill to the Safari Cafe and had lunch. The french fries (chips) were great. The hamburgers were mediocre. After lunch we continued up the hill walk figuring we would go up the hill first and then work our way down. At the top of the hill there is even a scenic mountaintop scenic overlook from which you can see the entire city and the Firth of Forth. It was a long walk up hill but we saw the incredible zebras. We saw the monkeys, lions, penguins, gorillas, and flamingos. Unfortunately, there are no giraffes nor are there any elephants. There was guite a bit of rebuilding and construction going on. They had a unique play area for children. It was similar to a jungle walk. I am not sure that it would be allowed in the States. It was a fun trip to the zoo.
We stopped at a Morrison's in Edinburgh for groceries. Pete and Jess went in while we stayed in the car with Joey. Pete drove the M8 motorway back to Glasgow. We parked the car and walked to the flat.
Chase was happy to see us. She celebrated by running around in circles chasing her tail. Pete grilled turkey for turkey sandwiches. Dinner was good as usual.
Steps: 13,603
