Day 60 Monday July 23

Day 60. Monday July 23, 2012

A day no one really cares for in Glasgow.....RAIN! This is not the usual Glasgow drizzle or showers....this is heavy miserable rain. The is rain that makes owning a pair of Crocs a really good idea because your shoes get soaked no matter how careful you are. Your clothes get soaked, and you feel like you wore your clothes in a shower. The only good thing about it is that everyone shares your misery.

Jess had a meeting today with the instructor with whom she will be working this coming school year. She will continue her job with the reducing carbon footprint as long as the funding continues. Because the meeting came up after we had made plans for Pete and Jess to go Batman today, it necessitated a few changes in the plans. Pete & Jess went out on Friday, so today Neil and I are using their tickets to see Batman.

We trudged down Great George hill to Ashton Lane which is an alley with a strange conglomeration of pubs, restaurants, jewelry shops, and other speciality shops. Across from Brill, a pub, is a small movie theater. It is a bit strange. From the outside it looks like a very tiny store front. We went in, took off our rain jackets, shook off the excess water out the door, and collected the tickets which were preordered on the internet.

We bought a Coke and some M and M's and proceeded to our couch in the back row of this small theatre. There are three leather, full-size sofas in the back of the theatre. We had the center sofa. The sofa was quite comfortable. There was even a fur rug to cover up with had we wished to do so. The regular seats in the theater were quite large compared to theater seats in the States. They were also leather with a table between every other seat. Although Pete says the screen is small, and it is compared to screens in the States, it was still a movie screen.

The movie was very good. A number of critics have said not nice things, but it is a movie. We enjoyed it. I actually thought it was better than the middle two movies.

After the movie which got out at 2:00, I figured out it was too late to go to Amber for lunch since they close from 2:30 to 5:00 and then reopen for dinner. We ended up going to a pub / cafe called The BookClub for a hamburger. We had been there before with Pete, Jess, and Joey. It was still pouring rain. Pete swears it must be the best burger in the UK. We got soaked again.

After lunch we walked back to the flat. Yep, still raining.....got soaked again. When we got back to the flat, we changed into dry clothes and worked on the blog.

Pete and Jess made baked potato wedges and chicken fingers which they do very, very well. Pete had spent most of the afternoon in the kitchen. I thought he was busy cleaning, but he was baking. After the main course, they brought out homemade coconut cupcakes with cream cheese coconut icing. They were very, very good. I also opened a few presents from Pete, Jess, and Joey.....a pair of earrings and two pendants made from Scrabble tiles for necklaces. They had gotten them on the Isle of Aaron. They are quite lovely.

By that time it was time for Joey's bath and bedtime. We watched a bit of tv on the computer and went to bed.
